Many thanks for your comments. Yes it's all pretty cruel. It follows on from an even crueler bathhouse scene. The idea there was that she's been forced to wear the same work dress without it having been cleaned for so long it has prettty much turned to ragsand she's not been allowed to wash during all that time. She's been begging to be allowed to bathe because of the smell. She's finally allowed to get in a bath, albeit in chains, not knowing that the taps are connected to the slurry pit beneath the pig pen. I thought it might all be a bit too much to post on here though.
